Iconic Hotel Designs in Saudi Arabia Redefining Luxury Hospitality

Blending visionary architecture with spectacular natural settings, Saudi Arabia's most remarkable hotels are setting a new benchmark for destination design

Saudi Arabia is emerging as one of the world's most exciting destinations for contemporary architecture. Across the Kingdom, a new generation of luxury hotels is transforming dramatic deserts, mountains, and coastlines into immersive design experiences. Rather than competing with nature, these properties embrace it—combining cutting-edge architecture, local heritage, and sustainable innovation to create destinations where the landscape becomes part of the guest experience.

Here are seven remarkable hotels shaping the future of luxury design in Saudi Arabia.

1. Amansamar, Wadi Safar

Expected to welcome guests in 2027, Amansamar will be located within the striking Wadi Safar landscape near Riyadh. The resort has been designed to blend seamlessly into its surroundings, allowing cliffs, valleys, and plateaus to remain the visual focus.

Inspired by traditional Najdi architecture, the property features earth-toned materials, shaded walkways, courtyards, and interconnected gardens that resemble a contemporary desert village. Homes and communal spaces are carefully positioned to capture panoramic valley views while respecting the natural topography. As with every Aman destination, understated elegance allows the environment to take centre stage.

2. Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea

As the first completed resort within The Red Sea destination, Six Senses Southern Dunes showcases architecture inspired by both the desert and Bedouin culture.

Designed by Foster + Partners, the resort is instantly recognisable thanks to its sculptural flower-like canopy created from woven, petal-shaped forms. Sustainability plays a major role throughout the project, with passive cooling systems, solar-conscious materials, and shading techniques helping reduce energy consumption.

Inside, villas and suites incorporate references to traditional Sadu weaving while maintaining the clean, contemporary aesthetic for which Six Senses is known.

3. Our Habitas AlUla

Nestled among the sandstone cliffs of Ashar Valley, Our Habitas AlUla offers a minimalist approach that celebrates the surrounding desert.

Its 96 villas are spread across the landscape in a way that feels natural rather than intrusive. Built using modular construction methods and finished with earthy materials, the resort reflects regional architecture while minimising its environmental footprint.

Simple interiors, organic textures, and low-rise buildings ensure the spectacular rock formations remain the destination's true highlight.

4. Shebara Resort, The Red Sea

Few resorts are as visually distinctive as Shebara Resort. Located on a private island, its mirrored stainless-steel villas appear to float above the water like polished silver pearls.

Created by Killa Design, the futuristic architecture continues indoors through curved walls, sculptural furniture, and soft organic forms. While the resort presents a bold architectural statement, it also prioritises environmental responsibility by protecting the surrounding marine ecosystem and nearby coral reefs.

5. The Red Sea EDITION

Situated on Shura Island, The Red Sea EDITION reflects its surroundings through a restrained palette of stone, oak, and warm neutral tones.

Following EDITION's signature minimalist philosophy, the interiors rely on natural light, local materials, and carefully integrated greenery instead of excessive decoration. The hotel is fully powered by solar energy, reinforcing the destination's broader sustainability ambitions while offering guests a refined contemporary retreat surrounded by coral-fringed waters.

6. Desert Rock Resort

Designed by Oppenheim Architecture, Desert Rock Resort is built directly into the granite mountains of western Saudi Arabia, creating one of the country's most dramatic hospitality projects.

Many of its villas are carved into the rock itself, while others sit discreetly among valleys and elevated cliffs. Natural stone, sand-cast finishes, and locally inspired materials blur the line between architecture and landscape, creating interiors that feel deeply connected to the surrounding desert.

7. The Chedi Hegra, AlUla

Located within Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Chedi Hegra offers a rare opportunity to stay within one of the country's most significant archaeological destinations.

Developed from restored Hijaz Railway buildings, the hotel preserves original mud-brick structures, railway equipment, and historic architectural elements while introducing refined contemporary hospitality. Art installations—including the impressive 700-metre Shadow Canopy and a chandelier crafted from reclaimed railway tracks—create a dialogue between history and modern design.

Its location, just moments from the ancient Nabataean tombs, makes it one of Saudi Arabia's most culturally immersive luxury hotels.

Where Architecture Meets Landscape

Saudi Arabia's newest luxury hotels demonstrate a clear shift in architectural thinking. Rather than dominating their surroundings, these projects embrace local landscapes, cultural traditions, and sustainable design principles. Whether nestled within desert canyons, built into mountain ranges, or overlooking the Red Sea, each property offers more than luxury accommodation—it delivers an experience where architecture and nature exist in harmony.
