Dubai Metro Blue Line: The New Areas Getting Connected By 2029

From Dubai Creek Harbour to Academic City, here's what we know about the city's next major Metro expansion.

Dubai's Metro network is getting a major upgrade. The Blue Line, scheduled to open in 2029, will bring rail connections to several fast-growing communities across the city.

The project will span around 30 kilometres across two routes, with 14 stations and approximately 15.5 kilometres running underground. Once operational, it is expected to improve transport for around one million people and help reduce road congestion by up to 20%.

Here's where the Blue Line is heading.

Al Jaddaf

One branch will connect with the existing Creek Station, creating an interchange with the Green Line and providing easier access between Al Jaddaf and communities further east.

Al Rashidiya

The second branch will connect with Centrepoint Station, currently the final stop on the Red Line. This will create another important interchange between Dubai's existing and new Metro networks.

Dubai Creek Harbour

One of the project's biggest architectural statements will be here.

The future Emaar Properties Station is planned as the world's tallest Metro station. Covering around 11,000 square metres, it is designed to accommodate up to 160,000 passengers.

A new 1.3-kilometre bridge will also carry the Blue Line across Dubai Creek.

Dubai Festival City

The Blue Line will give Dubai Festival City a direct Metro connection, improving access for residents as well as visitors heading to the area's hotels, waterfront and Dubai Festival City Mall.

Ras Al Khor

Ras Al Khor will sit along the main Blue Line corridor, improving connections towards Dubai Creek Harbour, International City and other parts of the network.

International City

International City will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the project, with three stations planned for the area.

One will serve as an underground interchange, while the expanded network should also make destinations such as Dragon Mart considerably easier to reach without a car.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dubai's technology and innovation district will finally gain direct Metro access. The connection also supports the area's continued development under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Academic City

The new route will extend to Dubai International Academic City, improving public transport for one of the city's largest education hubs and its growing student population.

Al Warqa

The residential community of Al Warqa will be served by the shorter Blue Line branch, bringing rail transport closer to an area that currently relies heavily on roads.

Mirdif

Mirdif is also set to gain better access to Dubai's public transport network, improving connectivity for residents and destinations around the neighbourhood.

What About DXB?

One of the biggest advantages of the Blue Line will be improved connections to Dubai International Airport.

The RTA expects journeys between key communities along the route and DXB to take around 20 minutes. Further details on exactly how the Blue Line will integrate with the airport's existing Metro infrastructure are still expected.

When Will The Dubai Metro Blue Line Open?

The Blue Line is scheduled to begin operations in 2029, marking 20 years since the Dubai Metro first opened.

With new connections across Dubai's eastern and northeastern communities, the project is set to make areas including International City, Silicon Oasis, Academic City and Dubai Creek Harbour significantly easier to reach by public transport.

And with 14 new stations planned, Dubai's Metro map is about to look very different.
