Abu Dhabi to Debut a New Era in Watch Culture
A three-day cultural gathering redefining how collectors experience watchmaking

A new format is entering the global watch scene this November, as Abu Dhabi prepares to host The Escapement — a three-day gathering set to run from November 20 to 22, 2026. Positioned as the world’s first collector-led horology platform, the initiative aims to rethink how watches are presented, experienced, and understood.
Rather than following the traditional trade fair model, the event introduces a more immersive and narrative-driven approach. It brings together watchmakers, collectors, founders, and cultural voices in a setting designed not around transactions, but around dialogue, craftsmanship, and shared passion.
A Platform Built Around Collectors
At the heart of The Escapement is a shift in perspective. While collectors have long played a defining role in shaping the value and direction of watchmaking, they have rarely been placed at the center of industry events. This platform seeks to change that — framing watches not only as luxury objects, but as cultural artefacts shaped by design, innovation, and philosophy.
Co-founder Anish Bhatt emphasizes that the intention is to create a space where horology is explored through storytelling and human connection, rather than purely through product launches.
A Curated Line-Up of Leading Names
The inaugural edition will feature a carefully selected mix of heritage maisons and independent watchmakers. Among them are Greubel Forsey, Louis Vuitton, Rexhep Rexhepi, Chopard, Biver, and Romain Gauthier.
This combination reflects the diversity of modern horology — from established houses with decades of heritage to independent creators redefining the boundaries of the craft.
According to Michel Nydegger, the platform offers a rare opportunity for meaningful, direct engagement with collectors — something that is often missing from larger, more commercial events.

Beyond the Traditional Watch Fair
Instead of exhibition halls focused on displays, the experience is designed as a cultural programme. Over the course of three days, guests can expect:
- Intimate conversations with leading figures in watchmaking
- Masterclasses exploring both technical precision and creative process
- Curated presentations and exclusive unveilings
- Abu Dhabi-only releases introduced with full storytelling context
The emphasis is on depth rather than scale — prioritising quality interactions and insight over volume.
Abu Dhabi’s Growing Cultural Influence
By hosting the first edition, Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its positioning as a global cultural destination. The city has increasingly aligned itself with projects that bridge craftsmanship, creativity, and international audiences — making it a fitting stage for a concept like The Escapement.
Further details, including the venue and ticketing, are expected to be announced in June.
If the debut delivers on its vision, this new platform could signal a shift in the industry — placing collectors, conversation, and culture at the forefront of modern horology.
