Visit Al Fahidi To Learn About Dubai's History, Culture, & Architecture
Step into the past at Al Fahidi, where traditional architecture meets vibrant cultural events. Discover Dubai’s rich heritage in every alleyway!
Visit Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood to learn about mid-19th century living in Old Dubai. This neighbourhood, which is situated alongside Dubai Creek, is a significant historical monument that still has a large portion of its original infrastructure.
Built of sandstone, teak, gypsum, palm wood, and sandalwood, the traditional wind towers are but a small portion of Al Fahidi's past. Every winding road, alleyway, and winding tower narrates a tale of a life lived before the seven emirates.
Discover a variety of cultural events, museums, art galleries, special events, and local cuisine by following the meandering streets. Make sure not to miss any local events by checking our Dubai Calendar, especially Sikka Art Fair and Heritage Week.
Activities and events at Al Fahidi
There are more than fifty "houses" to discover. Start with a culturally engaging tour of the district at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU). Intriguingly, the Coins Museum showcases more than 470 unique coins and sheds light on the pre-independence monetary systems of the British Empire, India, and other neighbouring countries.
The Symposium House and Events House, which frequently host cultural events and heritage-related activities like local craftsmen's displays, are two other noteworthy locations. The Calligraphy House (Dar Al Khatt), which specialised in Arabic calligraphy and all things associated with the artistic medium, is a must-see.
Also make sure you visit the Municipality House that stands as a remarkable embodiment of traditional Dubai.
