The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Is Official and Fashion Fans Are Freaking Out
After nearly two decades of rumors and red carpet back-and-forth, the chicest movie of all time is finally getting a sequel

Get ready to run in heels again. Nearly 19 years after The Devil Wears Prada first blessed our screens with designer labels and soul-crushing sarcasm, the iconic film is officially getting a sequel. Yes, for real this time. After years of denials, vague comments, and one unforgettable SAG Awards reunion, Disney has confirmed that Miranda Priestly is making her grand return.
From "It’s Not Happening" to "Let’s Do It"
Anne Hathaway had fans losing hope back in 2022 when she flat-out told Entertainment Tonight that a sequel was not going to happen. Fast forward to 2024 and her stance softened a bit. Speaking with V Magazine, she admitted that the world had changed and that while a direct follow-up would be tricky, she would love to work with the original cast again. It seemed like a nostalgic dream.
Then things changed.
Reports from Variety confirmed that Disney was developing a sequel with Aline Brosh McKenna, the original screenwriter, in talks to return. Puck added even more fuel to the fire by reporting that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt were already on board. Director David Frankel may also be returning to direct, and Wendy Finerman is set to produce once again.

A New Fashion War Is Brewing
The plot is already making waves. The sequel will follow Miranda Priestly as she struggles to keep her influence alive in a world where traditional print is dying. Emily Charlton, once her assistant, is now a top executive at a luxury conglomerate. The twist? Miranda needs Emily’s advertising dollars to save her magazine. Talk about power shift.
It is the same high fashion drama, but this time it is all about digital dominance and business politics.
What About Andy Sachs?
While Hathaway’s name has not been officially tied to the sequel, fans are buzzing. If Andy does return, will she still be chasing the truth with her heartfelt articles, or has she stepped fully into the glossy world she once resisted? One thing is for sure. She will not be bringing Nate.
In a 2023 interview, McKenna made it crystal clear: “Andy and Nate are definitely not together.” That relationship debate can finally be put to rest.
Set Your Alarms for May 1, 2026
The countdown has begun. Disney has officially locked in a theatrical release date of May 1, 2026. That gives us plenty of time to rewatch the original, debate wardrobe choices, and prep our Miranda-level side-eyes.

Still the Stuff of Fashion Dreams
The original film gave us unforgettable outfits, razor-sharp one-liners, and a peek into a world where power is measured in Prada. The sequel promises to deliver the same fierce energy with a modern twist. With an updated media landscape and evolved characters, it is the perfect time to return to Runway.
