Abu Dhabi Gaming Shines at Tokyo Game Show 2024

Showcasing UAE's Creative Talent and Innovation in the Global Gaming Industry

Local game studios captivate global audiences with groundbreaking titles, paving the way for future collaborations and a thriving gaming ecosystem in the Middle East.

Abu Dhabi’s four studios had their display of the UAE gaming industry to be successful, making it their second appearance at the Tokyo Game Show 2024. It acted as a platform to show them the current talent and creativity of the local video game developers and establish new business opportunities and hype among the leaders of the relevant fields across the world.

The Tokyo Game Show 2024 was marked by the first appearance of the company funded by the Abu Dhabi government to popularize video games in the UAE – Abu Dhabi Gaming. For the first time, the group set up its own booth, showcasing four prominent UAE game production studios: The gaming companies are Hypemasters, Afterwork Games, Khosouf Studios, and Kashkool Games. These firms demonstrated their latest products and editorial fantasies to gamers, prospective sponsors, and a Japanese public.

‘We felt that it would just be a brilliant idea to bring some of the most exciting projects being undertaken in Abu Dhabi.” It has been great to have the teams behind these games come and showcase the games to visitors while also presenting their work, said Marcos Muller-Habig, an official of Abu Dhabi Gaming. Though it could be rather problematic initially for the group members due to factors like organizational language, time differentiation, and organizational language, the team seemed to be highly enthusiastic and dedicated for the event, which made the organization’s presence smoother and successful for the event.

Unveiling Innovative Games: UAE-Based Studios Steal the Spotlight at TGS 2024, Impressing International Audiences

The featured UAE-based studios showcased games that captivated the interest of TGS visitors.

Kashool Games Wowed Audiences with the Arabic mythological game “Sheba: A New Dawn”

Kashkool Games presented "Sheba: A New Dawn," an action-RPG based on rich Arabic mythology that provides gamers with an immersive, story-driven experience. Omran Almansoori, the game's CEO, expressed delight at the excellent reception from Japanese guests, remarking how the genre's familiarity in Japan resulted in enthusiastic interactions.

Hypemasters’ Impressive Launch of “World War Armies”

Hypemasters, another UAE firm, demonstrated "World War Armies," a multiplayer real-time strategy game that was released on August 24. Hypemasters' Ekaterina Bazhanova underlined that their booth outperformed expectations in terms of visitor engagement, stressing how easy visitors found the booth and how much they valued the intelligent design and giveaways.

Afterwork Games Blends Japanese Influences with UAE Innovation

Afterwork Games opted to promote their upcoming project, "Balance Party Vol.2," which uses novel controls in which players tilt their bodies on a balance board to navigate gameplay. CEO Nayef Alblooshi noted that the game is inspired by classic Japanese video games, as a tribute to their childhood experiences. “It was very encouraging for us to come and showcase the game here at TGS to represent some of how video games we played back in the day inspired us,” he said.

Khosouf Studios Recognized by Gaming Giants Like PlayStation

Khosouf Studios, presenting "Shadow Dreams," the pinnacle product that is set for release in 2025, has drawn the attention of gaming behemoths including PlayStation.

“I suppose the time was right to show it to the world, and the attention PlayStation gave to our studio was a major milestone for us,” stated Ahmad Al-Natsheh, the founder. “Because we have been working on a game for 6-7 years now, ready to show it to the world, it is just amazing to see that PlayStation came to our booth and played the game.”

Warm Response and Growing Interest: Japanese Visitors and Industry Leaders Show Themselves Enthusiastic about UAE's Gaming Environment

Japanese visitors and game industry experts responded incredibly positively. Many were relatively ignorant of the growing gaming sector in the Middle East and immediately took to the game titles on display, shattering geographical barriers. “The visitors and business owners were very excited to meet developers from the Middle East. Arabic mythology and cultural elements presented in a product quite impressed them,” mentioned Almansoori from Kashkool Games.

Building Strong Connections: Abu Dhabi Gaming Seeks Future Collaborations and Greater Global Presence After TGS 2024

Abu Dhabi Gaming was pleased with the reception at TGS 2024, fueling hopes for advancing their presence going forward. “After TGS, we want to maintain this momentum, reach out to other events, and bring more of Abu Dhabi's creative talent to new places,” stated Muller-Habig. He emphasized the goal of showcasing UAE-based games to wider audiences while continuing to forge partnerships in the gaming industry.

Kashkool Games, in particular, sees golden opportunities to partner with Japanese companies following the interest shown at TGS.

Almansoori stated: "The excitement from the visitors has encouraged us to explore our partnerships with Japanese companies, which would enhance our market presence here."

Bright Future for Abu Dhabi Gaming: Strategic Plans to Elevate UAE Gaming Sector and Promote Cultural Exchange through Global Events

The full representation of Abu Dhabi Gaming at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 marks a turning point in the gaming landscape in the UAE. The successful execution of this project at one of the world's most respected gaming events showcases its dedication to showcasing the creative talent from the UAE and facilitating cultural exchange through gaming.
